A church insurance claim public adjuster in Arizona represents churches and houses of worship on hail, storm, roof, water and fire claims, documenting every building, reading the commercial policy, and negotiating with the insurer so the congregation is paid for the full repair. Copper State Adjusting is a public adjuster licensed by DIFI, based in Mesa. We are public adjusters, not attorneys.

Church Hail Damage From the October 2026 Storm

On October 20, 2026, a supercell dropped hail up to 2 inches across Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa. A second storm hit North Phoenix, Deer Valley, Glendale and Peoria on October 21 with 1.25- to 2-inch hail. In Mesa, a church near University Drive and Gilbert Road reported a downed outside wall and toppled 40-year-old trees, and roofers found roof damage across the East Valley. See the storm reports and date-of-loss guide.

Church roofs often go uninspected after a storm because no one climbs on them. Hail damage to a sanctuary roof can start leaking months later, into the ceiling, the sound system or the organ, after the insurer is already arguing the damage is old.

Why Church Insurance Claims Are Different

A church is a commercial property, but it is not an office building. Church claims run into problems a homeowner claim never has:

  • Many buildings, one policy. A campus may include a sanctuary, fellowship hall, education wing, preschool, gym, offices and a parsonage. Each building needs its own documentation, and the deductible may apply per building.
  • Hard roofs to inspect and replace. Steep sanctuary roofs, multi-level roofs, steeples, bell towers and flat foam or single-ply roofs on newer wings are often undervalued or missed.
  • Irreplaceable features. Stained and leaded glass, custom woodwork, organs and historic materials cost far more to repair or match than standard materials.
  • Percentage wind and hail deductibles. On a building insured for millions, a percentage deductible is large, so a partial or “spot repair” estimate can leave the church with nothing.
  • Code upgrades. Older church buildings often trigger code-required work once repairs start. Ordinance or law coverage, if the policy has it, can pay for it.
  • Board approval. Decisions go through a pastor, board, vestry, elders or a facilities committee. The insurer’s timeline does not wait for the next meeting.
  • Lost use of the building. If services, a school or a preschool have to move, business income or extra expense coverage may apply, depending on the policy.

What We Handle for Churches in Arizona

  • Hail damage — roofs of every type, rooftop HVAC, skylights, stained glass, signage and vehicles. See wind and hail claims.
  • Monsoon and storm damage — wind, fallen trees, collapsed walls and shade structures. See storm damage claims.
  • Roof leaks and water damage — ceilings, carpet, pews, organs, AV and sound systems. See water damage claims.
  • Fire and smoke damage — structure, contents, smoke cleaning. See fire and smoke.
  • Denied and underpaid claims — files already closed low or denied. See denied and underpaid claims.

How a Church Hail Claim Works

  1. Document and protect. Photograph every building and roof, protect the interior from more water, and keep receipts for emergency repairs.
  2. Report the claim promptly. Give the insurer the date of loss and a short, factual description. Do not guess roof ages or call the damage minor before it is inspected.
  3. Read the policy. Confirm the wind and hail deductible, coinsurance, roof limits, ordinance or law, and business income coverage.
  4. Independent inspection. Every roof slope and building is inspected and documented before the insurer’s adjuster visits.
  5. Estimate and negotiation. We build a full scope and negotiate it against the insurer’s estimate, including depreciation, matching and code upgrades.
  6. Report to the board. One point of contact, written updates and plain-language explanations for the people who have to approve the settlement.

Deadlines for a Church Property Claim

Report the damage promptly, as the policy requires. Arizona law lets a property policy limit lawsuits against the insurer to one year from the date of loss (A.R.S. § 20-1115), unless the policy gives longer. Commercial policies may also require a sworn proof of loss within a set time after the insurer asks for it. See Arizona insurance claim deadlines.

Churches We Serve

We work with churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and other houses of worship, along with faith-based schools and nonprofits, across Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Peoria and the rest of Arizona. For other commercial buildings, see commercial property claims.

If hail, wind or water damaged your church, request a free claim review. If the insurer has already made an offer, we can review it against the damage before the board accepts.
